Coordinating and supporting the efforts of volunteers, paraprofessionals, and classroom teachers.
Just as it is beneficial for students to work cooperatively with one another, it is also beneficial for educators to cooperate with one another as well as with volunteers and paraprofessionals. We can learn from one another and support each other, which will ultimately have a positive effect on students.
My first artifact is Patricia Devlin's article, Create Effective Teacher-Paraprofessional Teams (2008). Devlin states that when teachers and paraprofessionals collaborate as a team, there are positive implications for students. She goes on to offer strategies for creating this this relationship that is conducive to student learning. My second artifact is my folder for A Way With Words and Numbers Tutors (AWWWN). All of the tutors in this program are University of Missouri--Columbia students. They are assigned to teachers who opt-in to the program each semester, and their job is to tutor students in whatever way the classroom teacher sees fit. I meet with my tutors before they work with students to help them to feel comfortable with myself, my students, and my classroom.
