I selected my final paper from Miscue Analysis to represent this descriptor. The paper is a culmination of a semester's work with a single student, Chloee. In doing so, I was able to capture a holistic view of this student and put my knowledge of the foundations of language into action. I learned about her background, family, language, and understanding of the reading components and process. When selecting strategies and brainstorming ideas for furthering her reading skills, I accessed my knowledge of psychological, sociological, and linguistic implications specific to her. In gathering data through the Burke and other surveys, RMA, Informal and Over the Shoulder Procedures, and strategy lessons with Chloee, I was able to glean an understanding of her language development and reading acquisition. This included insight into her understanding of the major components of reading and her use of the phonological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic cueing systems.
